What does Penson do?
Every broker-dealer, investment advisor and hedge fund must clear and settle their trades. Clearing is the process of matching the buyer and the seller of a financial instrument (i.e. security, futures contract, option, etc.) and then exchanging the money and financial instrument for that transaction. Firms who lack the ability to clear their own trades will contract with a third party broker-dealer, like Penson, to do this for them.
